I believe you about the `Stang crunch that it couldn't have been avoided, and I'm very glad that you didn't get hurt. For what that's worth anyway.
I have been in one accident that totaled the car I was driving. It was a head-on, definitely not my doing and completely unavoidable. My car being there saved the punk in the pickup that hit me from a 50' drop into a lake.
