Hope Canada has a bow big enough to fire that thing off.

Did 2,000 mph and was the best in the world until a Canadian Prime Minister destroyed Canada's aviation industry by ordering the program scrapped even though improvements were already planned. In his zeal to make sure so trace of it remained he ordered the prototypes and documents destroyed.

Me thinks the US military industrial complex had something to do with Canada canceling the Avro. I believe the engineering team was then promptly hired by a US military aviation firm. The Canadadian Prime Minister was probably bribed. Corruption and Canadian politics go hand in hand.

Arny hit the nail on the head.Enough said about that.Alot of the Avro employees went on to work for various firms including Nasa & the Concorde design team etc etc.

Doubt it did Mach 3+ at that time. Superalloys in the engines weren't of the caliber they are today. The combusters never could burn hot enough to produce the efficiency required to provide enough thrust for a non-composite bodied aircraft

well the quote from above was for 2000 mph but mach is the speed of sound at sea level - i dont remember the abient air temp but the speed is 738 mph - so this is not quite mach 3. Just a comment - like everybody else.

The Canadian Prime Minister was John George Diefenbaker (1957-63). He was the biggest traitor right after former Prime Minister Brain Martin Mulroney (1984-93). Both of these questionable characters sold out Canada to the US.
