Unfortunately, this is too true.
What the world needs are more truly independant news agencies in Africa, Asia
and South America.
Sadly, there is no hope for THAT in Europe and USA/Canada!

So the New York Times, Washington Post and hundreds of other newspapers that
are unendingly critical of the Bush Administration are NOT independent? Must
come as news to them. I never knew that CNN was under secret government
control. Do they know it?

"unendingly critical" The NYT came out an fucking /apologized/ that
they were fact-less cheerleaders for the War Based On Lies over in Iraq.
Oh sure, they print "some" critical stuff, but they don't really do
their work any more.
Btw, didn't you read that the Defense Intelligence Agency had put staff in the
offices of CNN. When it came out that they had done so, the DIA said it was
just for "training" purposes, so their boys could learn how news
agencies work.
Hmm, I wonder why the DIA wants to know how news agencies work...
Also, look up "The Grand Wurlitzer" some time. Might broaden your
opinion of the for-profit, corporate news that you think is so "unendingly
critical".

Why do you people think this stuff just started? All news outlets are biased
and controlling, this has been going on for decades now. None of them simply
report the news without putting their own spin on it. This is why I only pay
attention to the headlines and make up my on mind about them. This is also why
I only watch Fox News Channel because they hold the same ideals as I do and I
don't care what other people think about it.
