Best open class sportbike period. I own two of 'em, but selling both for a new
2006 R1 Limited ($18,000!) and a black R1 standard I've got ordered. Minor
changes for '06 include a longer wheelbase, 3 more HP, re-valved fork and shock,
stiffer frame... nothing drastic. Kawasaki's ZX10R is too hard edged and
unrefined, same goes for the Suzuki GSXR1000, a rocket fast bike which I think
is kind of crude and too cramped and uncomfortable for anything else but track
use.
I have a '05 Repsol CBR1000RR and a black '04 CBR100RR also, and these are
easily the most flexible and easy to ride 1000cc bikes, but the Yamaha R1 is
just awesome...rev happy, with quick, snappy response, a superb chassis and
perfect suspension and brakes. The 20 valve Genesis III engine is the benchmark
of refinement and durability. All this, and it's built like a Swiss watch, just
damn beautiful to look at and touch. Can't beat it! The Hayabusa is a completely
different animal...it's not a "sportbike" by today's standards, more
like a "GT" bike. Heavy, long wheelbase, stretched out ergonomics.
Better for long cruises, but any 600cc supersport will eat it alive on a tight
track, that is, as long as there 'aint any long straightaways where the 'Busa
can hit hyperdrive!

Man,I rode it.That thing is a monster.I was behind my bike and when I tried to
catch up it kept pulling the front wheel up in first second and third.I love
it.Pure power!

So, are you going to buy it?
Duane Report This Comment Date: October 30, 2005 06:13PM
I just bought the Sv1000 so I have to do some money switching and
refinancing. But,yes I am.I love it,even if I have to save $2000 and use that to
refinance I will do it.Whatever this bike is mine!

Get it, you won't regret it. And don't be tempted to put an aftermarket exhaust
on it either...you'll lose bottom end and midrange power, gain almost nothing on
top, and it'll just be noisier. The stock pipes make a sweet growl, and don't
rattle or vibrate. This is one of the few bikes in the world that only a few
gifted riders can use to it's full capability, and probably THE only bike that
is so perfect off the showroom floor, doing ANYTHING to it besides tires and
suspension setup is a complete waste of money. Enjoy!

The bike is lowered 2" in back.I noticed when we riding he has racing
expierence and he was on my bike.We went around a clover leaf and he entered the
corner faster than I normaly do,about 70mph,my bike allways feels twitchy in
sharp high speed turns but on the R-1 I tailed him thru the turn and it was
completely comfortable and I could even accelerate on him.I took it to 140mph
but it was windy and I dont own the bike yet so I let up.It definately has alot
more power and unlike the ninja 600 I rode it comes on way faster and at lower
rpms she lifts the front easily.Im sold, awesome bike.I will own it!

Did he lower it with different shock links? If the front end has the same ride
height, this will have the effect of slowing down the steering somewhat. Ask him
about that.

I'll talk to him tommorow but from what I felt it was far more controlable than
my SV but he worked for delmarva powersports and had it done in shop when he got
the bike. What is the proper method for lowering,he said he had the parts to
bring it back to stock but to be honest I have no idea about this suspension.I'd
apreciate any help with setup because he's probably 140 and Im 250 so Im sure
its not universal.Ill check when I talk to him.Man this bike is unreal,I could
not believe the lift on the front wheel with the first 3 gears and I did not
give it full throtle by any means.I like how low she goes in turns.I turned onto
a road behind him and Im glad I did'nt give it gas in the corner because when I
got strait she was up that quick. If you can't tell Im a little extatic about the
bike.
