Unless I'm mistaken Dallas is actually the 2nd largest city in the state of
Texas. Houston being the largest I believe. The last time I heard the figures
quoted I believe Dallas was the 8th largest city in the US.
However, with Dallas (roughly 1,000,000 population) and Fort Worth (again
roughly 1,000,000) only being separated by about 30 miles, of which all is
just more smaller cities like Arlington (400,000+), Irving (200,000-300,000+),
Grand Prairie (400,000+), Hurst, Euless, Bedford (comprising likely another
1,000,000 - 2,000,000 or so) and when the other outlying suburbs on either of
the outer sides of Dallas (just one of which is Garland with over 500,000,
making it the largest suburban city in the entire US) and Fort Worth are added
in there are likely another 4,000,000 - 5,000,000 in these cities making up
cumulatively what's known locally as the Metroplex or DFW.
With Dallas and Fort Worth and their suburbs population and land mass lumped
together it's an area stretching out from east to west over 100 miles of all
urban development and housing taking a minimum of 2 hrs to traverse on the
interstate highways with a total population of somewhere around 10,000,000
people total.
So .... yes Virginia, things are BIG in Texas :>
