I am American. I have played football at a fairly high level. I presently play rugby for a mens' club. Rugby is harder. There is not the same violence, and the players are not as uniformly huge, but the fitness needed is brutal. And you need to be more well-rounded since all need to participate in just about every aspect of the game.
