Flares are not decoy's but I'm still wondering why they used this in the
daytime

They're not designed to generate light. That's just a by-product of generating
a large, intense IR source. They're "decoys" in the sense of
confusing and attracting heat-seeking missiles away from the airplane, so I'm
not sure what your beef is.

He's thinking "flare" as in "flare gun" to light up the
night or to attract attention in case of distress. He wasn't thinking
"There's a missile on my ass...send out the flares!"

No, HE is suggesting that the correct name is "Angel Flares" and that
the more common use is to light up ground forces.
C130's and similar fly so slow that no amount of flashy counter-measures can
save it from a SAM.
