"A bison clears a stock fence in December just outside northeastern
Oregon's Eagle Cap Wilderness . The young animal is part of a wild herd of bison
that has laid claim to the Wallowa Mountains around the U.S. Forest Service's
Bear Wallow Campground. The herd began with animals that escaped from a ranch,
and landowners say the bison sometimes are driven down to low-elevation pastures
by winter storms and deep snow."
