lol yes a made up country like Transylvania and Bohemia. I think Shakesphere
made them up. In the Hungarian movie "My 20th Century" a fellow
traveller says that to one of the main characters about Hungary almost that same
question about Hungary, Transylvania and Bohemia claiming Shakesphere invented
them all. Well Cascadia is a bioregion. A bioregion is determined by its
watershed or other ecological factors like biodiversity along with shared
cultural traits. In the case of Cascadia this would encompus all the Pacific
NorthWest from the Panhandle of Alaska to Northern California and from the
Pacific Ocean to the western slopes of the continental divide. Oregon,
Washington state British Columbia are the usual listed places that are included
in Cascadia. Like Transylvania, Kashmir-Jamu, Nagorno-Karabakh, Kosovo and other
regions that are within nation-states Cascadia is a bioregion that transcends
nation-states. One could say Cascadia is international because it is divide
administratively by Canada and the United States. Is Cascadia a future
nation-state? ... well hopefully Cascadians will reject the idea of
nation-states as outdated systems of oppression and ideally Cascadians will use
our bioregion as one of self-reflection on our relationship with Nature and
eachother. Anyway that is the Cascadian flag for Cascadia call it the Cascadian
Flag or the Doug Fir flag or the Tree flag or just Doug for short.
