In this infamous pic, the Vietnamese officer shown executing a suspected VietCong in the streets of Saigon sought and won asylum in the US after the city's fall to the NVA. He had been operating a pizza restaurant in Ohio during the early 1990s, according to a year 2000 "famous photographs of the 20th century" story I read.
Facinating.

I would like to add that there was some "justification" for his actions.
Mr. Nguyen had just come from his home where they had found his whole family butchered by the VC. When he heard that there was a captured VC nearby he promptly went over and killed the suspect. I cannot say that I do not sympathize with the man, even though I was chocked at the time.
I have seen this reaction plenty of times, most recently in Irak when a US Marine executed a tied-up prisoner.

In this infamous photo the one thing that was never mentioned by anybody is that the guy being shot had killed the shooters family - this is fact! This information came much later from the guy who took the picture. It's amazing what the press doesn't tell you.
