Does it have anything to do with Simon & Garfunkel?

Bluemax again?

Nigel, how about a hint?
Nigel_Knowitall Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 04:33AM
Well, not Blue Max and not Simon & Garfunkel, but a proper WW1 flying film.
Nigel_Knowitall Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 05:23AM
Another hint:
2 great WW1 pilots.

German
Manfred von Richthofen, aka "The Red Baron"
American
Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker

Still, it aint no name of a film!

The Red Baron.
Nigel_Knowitall Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 07:07AM
The Red Baron, a porno flick with Angela Barron? Not likely, this is more
cerebral than that!
90130_ Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 07:14AM
Ahahaha! I did not know that. Is that video in your hutch, Nigel?
90130_ Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 07:16AM
Actually...did you know that "The Red Baron" is slated for a 2007
release? Promises to be a good WWI flying movie in the same vein as
"Flyboys" although I have not seen it yet.
90130_ Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 07:19AM
I have not seen "Flyboys" yet, correction to my previous post.
Nigel_Knowitall Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 10:14AM
Well I hope it is better than "Flyboys".
They had all that computer power and the only planes they got right was the
Nieuports, The German planes were all wrong, the tactics all wrong in several
important cases, the other allied planes were wrong, the love story was so
incongruous, if they spent all that money, why did they not do it better, I do
not expect it to be perfect, but much better than "Flyboys"

OK, I am writng this on a new interface. Plus 613 has changed, or is it only
for us with Firefox.
Anyhow, the film is "von Richthoven and Brown". Some of the footage
from this film was used in the other WW1 flying film at the time - "Aces
High".
"von Richthoven and Brown" is in my opinion a better film than
"Blue Max", well worth looking for. I do not think it can be found on
DVD. Unfortunately I only have a Spanish VHS, which limits the enjoyment
somewhat!

Will have to look it up, BTW I didn't like Flyboys that much:
-They had several Red scarlet Focker DR1 tiplanes, mainly the red baron was the
only one with that color scheme
- The only Black American aviator in the 'Lafayette' served in the Lafayette
flying corps not on the 'Escadrille'
- the movie starts the pilots in 1914 and the types of planes they fly in the
movie are from 1917-18
I guess when Hollywood grabs a good story it just screws it up.

You're right!
Only Fokker Dr1, no Fokker DVII, no Albratrosses, no Pfalzes, no
90130_ Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 03:21PM
Hmmm, thanks for the heads up regarding "Flyboys" and I probably
would not have guessed this movie title without some research. I've heard of it,
but have never seen it.
90130_ Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 03:28PM
When has Hollywood ever gotten it completely right anyway? One of the most
blatantly wrong films IMHO was "The bridge over the river Kwai" among
others I'm reluctant to say that they occupy a space in my collection.
Niger_Knowitall Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 05:54PM
They got it right with "the Grapes of Wrath"!
and I think that some of the war movies were not too bad, but then, most of the
really good ones were not Hollywood, but other productions.
One film that showed combat well, is the beginning of "Finding Private
Ryan". The beach landing scene is exactly like the way I felt during my
first combat moments...
90130_ Report This Comment Date: October 09, 2006 08:09PM
I have not seen the "Grapes of Wrath" since Christ was a child.
Thanks for the reminder, I would agree with you on that one.
The beach landing scene from "Saving Private Ryan" is indeed a
remarkable cinematic feat. I have a VHS and two DVD copies of that one...don't
ask me why!
