Assuming the trains in most European countries run on time or even at all, high
speed is a bonus. Concentrate on getting the basics right before trying impress
us.

Yeah, but when you get off that fancy-dancy high-speed train, you're still in
Europe, so what's the point? If it went somewhere, that would be different.

Have done Marseille to Lyon (going to watch the All Blacks play in the Rugby
World Cup in 07) - not quite London fossil, but a good trip none-the-less. Also
had to get from Toulouse to Marseille first. 300kph in a 2 storey train - what
a ride!

i would be asking them to slow down.

i've made the Paris all through
the Loire valley castle route a few times. the thing i loved the most was
stumbling on little out of the way/off the map castles/vineyards/farms, and they
are everywhere.
