obviously there's no home owners association Femi-Nazis there.

Or self-installed. Could be a rental and mounting the dish on the building
isn't allowed. I see them all over like this one or worse. I'm guessing the
equipment is pretty cheap and expendable. Once we found one new receiver in the
box on the road that fell of the truck. We called the dish company to return it
to them and they didn't even care about it.

Common practice with many companies like cable, telephone and dish installers
is to lay the cable on the ground to be buried at a later date. Although this
one must have been done by the home owner since the dish is not mounted on a
pole, looks more like a temporary installation.

There is a very similar "temporary" installation at one of the
apartments here that has been there for several months. In this case I believe
the apartment management forbids hanging a dish on the building so it makes some
sense. At least the one here is nestled close to some shrubs and isn't in the
way of anything or in anyone's path but it has the cinder blocks holding it in
place much like the pic shows. Whatever works I guess. Of course a neat and tidy
installation is the best choice but tech hardware has become so cheap and
expendable that none of this comes as a big surprise and people these days don't
seem as concerned with doing things "right the 1st time" anyway.

our famous disposable society. when it's broke you toss it out and buy another
one instead of trying to fix it.

Disposable society is great for me. It allows mew to buy things for next to
nothing fix them and resale them for sometimes more than double my money. I
have gotten laptops for $10 and reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled OS and
sold them for $200. I have gotten VCR's for $5 cleaned the heads with q-tip and
alcohol and sold them for $30. These economic hard times are good also because
people bring things to me for quick cash much like they do at pawn shops because
I pay more than pawn shops do and sell them cheaper than Game Stop or Game
Exchange. If you want to try this just don't try to make a killing on every
deal and the deals you can make a killing at will come along.

i have 4 vacuum cleaners dug from the dumpster or equally goofy. all have had
nothing more than broken belts.
$2 @ Home depot and bingo!
one was actually a $400 Dyson. it had a crack in the canister...silicone inside
and out, and Bingo! sold it to a friends wife for $75 instead of holding out for
$150. and the list goes on and on and on.

A friend of mine at the market dives dumpsters and picks stuff off the roadside
people put out for trash men and sells the stuff. He has found all kinds of
treasure including a working Xbox 360, laptops, desktops, wire welders, lawn
mowers and even a generator that just needed a pump bulb.

i should clarify that dumpster diving is not what i do on a regular basis. i
just see stuff left outside the area dumpsters and sometimes pick them up.
jgoins Report This Comment Date: March 12, 2012 11:16AM
Nothing wrong with dumpster diving as long as it's legal in your area.
fossil_digger Report This Comment Date: March 12, 2012 01:47PM
it's illegal somewhere? i can just see the Cops episode on this one.

BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: March 12, 2012 06:03PM
I know people have been at least cited for trespassing.
GAK67 Report This Comment Date: March 12, 2012 09:21PM
It's illegal here apparently,
but you can get away with it.

I know someone that used to work at pizza hut, their dumpsters almost always
have perfectly good, in the box, still warm pizzas in them...over twenty years
he's gleaned countless pizzas from several different locations.
I've known a couple other 'divers' over the years too and have heard of their
'scores' similar to those already mentioned...while I can't recall ever pulling
anything worthwhile from the dumpster, I can say that I've thrown away alot of
perfectly good stuff that really should have been donated to charity but I was
young and didn't give a fuck about anything...
years ago I lived in an apartment next door to a cute thirty-something milf, our
doors were just a few feet (a meter) apart, one time we both opened our doors at
the exact same moment, both headed for the dumpster with our bags of trash, I
thought to offer to just take hers with me on my way but chose to have a couple
minutes to chat while we walked together instead, I know, how romantic right? ya
gotta seize these opportunities...so she and I and her two year old son get to
the dumpsters and throw in our shit and the kid says, OH! he bends down and
picks up a used condom and tries to throw it away...all I could do was
laugh..
I don't care how good it looks, I still can't do it...if it's been in the trash,
it's trash
and in the trash there's used condoms...

Freegans wouldn't baulk at a used condom...

When I lived in Corvallis (OSU town) some of the folks I knew would go wild at
the end of the school year because the college kids leaving for the summer would
pile up all kinds of stuff around the dumpsters like furniture, beds TVs,
stereos, little refrigerators, just about anything you could imagine being in a
dorm or student apartment.

We have a big christian university here and it is getting to be time for school
to be out so my friend is preparing. Mommy and daddy buy these kids everything
for their dorm room and when school is out most everything goes in the dumpsters
because mommy and daddy will replace it next year computers and laptops
included. Seems like christian universities are the worst for this practice,
they throw out everything except their drugs.
