I quite liked Chicago actually. Had a beautiful room overlooking the river,
nice view.

well yeah...overlooking the river is nice...
My sister used to live there and I visited a couple times...really enjoyed the
museum of science and industry there as well as the sears tower and navy
pier...but most of the time I spent in the windy was driving truck, and the
industrial areas of that city are just plain dirty, more so than most US
cities...
I did get to drive on the tarmac at O'Hare once, that was pretty cool, sharing
the 'road' with jumbo jets...

My ex lived in Illinois for a time, I went to visit her a few times from the
UK. Stayed in Chicago when the flight came in late, waiting to get the train the
next day. It was good, Amtrak foot the bill for half the room despite it being
in no way their fault that I missed the train. I guess I went through Chicago 3
or 4 times in total.
But yeah, away from the 'nice' part of the city, Chicago (and most of Illinois)
was a hole.

i have some cousins in Willmette (sp)(suburb of Chicago) very ritzy
neighborhood, so i'm a bit jaded as to the cleanliness. junior is right, the
Field Museum is one of the all time best i have been to next to the Louvre.
when i was like 10 years old, there for the first time, we went fishing at the
lake. it was August, i tried to cast my rod and the reel came off falling in the
water, it wasn't screwed down i guess. i could see the reel in about 7-8 foot of
water and started to take off my shirt and shoes. my cousins were laughing hard,
i jumped off the dock and the cold hit me immediately! i bet i only got the
bottom half of my body wet. my cousins claim that i almost walked on water.
they still give me shit.

Of all the big cities here Chicago's one of my faves. I attend an industrial
show held annually there when I can and enjoy the brisk night life and dining to
be had as a byproduct of the trip, which is nice.
I usually spend a lot of time in taxis when I'm there and have warned several of
the drivers that should they get down to Dallas it would serve them well to be a
bit more cautious and courteous in their driving here. Their Chicago driving
tactics wouldn't sit well with the locals here and could lead to some "less
than pleasant" interactions

Will be in Chi-town from Dec 3-9 and looking forward to getting back there
again. Even though it's a business trip I still try to steal some time away to
wander around a bit. Also down by the river by Merchandise Mart.
