Opposite side of the road and just around the corner to the right facing towards the canal, my wife and I bid on a house there a few years ago.

We opted to let it go because we were a bit uncertain about flooding potential. So bought a house in Mitford St instead which did flood. Yay?

Is that your car? I used to have an EL Falcon. That car was ace. And before that an XA Falcon my grandfather gave me when I was 16.

That was the last year I experienced fully paid for "company cars"
before FBT bit so hard every employer went to car allowances.
Hence not my choice of car and NOT my choice of colour.

That was a Ghia which just meant it was and extra 1 meter long and had some leather.
The thing steered like a boat but was perfect for Melbourne traffic.

Kim it's a 4.0 litre (244cu) straight six with 176Kw (236Hp).
Many options available on those fords including turbos.
The V8's were never as good as the sixes. GM had the best V8's IMHO.

Yep given the choice in that era I'd have a V8 Commodore or an XR6 Turbo Falcon. I wouldn't bother with a V8 Ford, they were too lazy. Less performance than the 6T and more thirsty.

Mine was none of those, just a straight 6.

Australian taxis regularly put 500,000Km on those motors.
Not a Ford fan but but what a great, practical, easy to work on motor.
Hemi sixes were the best but they necer kept up with the times. Pity.

Yep. My Falcon was an ex-police car. So it had a bunch of upgrades that weren't standard, which was cool. I only owned it from ~40,000 - 110,000km but it never missed a single beat, including being parked on the side of the road in the elements for 4 years while I lived overseas. I came back every ~12-18 months and it started first time every time.

'berto, never had a lot of experience w/inline 6s though my Mom did have a Jeep Grand Cherokee w/a 4.0l NA straight 6 that was a wicked engine. Unfortunately it was housed in a Jeep that fell apart on many other fronts w/far too much regularity. Being the good son that had to maintain it led to numerous side of the road repairs that didn help in my summation of thing as PITA POS overall, but the engine was great.

Ford used to have a 300ci/4.9l straight 6 that was a hoss of an engine. It was built along with the V8 302/5.0l and was actually to my mind the better of the 2 engines.

One serious advantage I always appreciated in inline 6s is that by design they have one extra main bearing housing compared to a V8, making their bottom end stronger and more rigid.

I have never seen one but I suspect a twin turbo or compound turbo set up on a 300-6 would yield a shit ton of power and probably do so pretty reliably (*binladen*)

I actually had a lil '78 2 door coupe Fiat 131-S Mirafiori that I rate as the 2nd best car I ever owned. Loved that boxy lil sucker. This one's almost identical to the one I had, same color and all [www.google.com]

The peppy lil 1.6l DOHC engine in it was years ahead of its time, had a funky hand shaped distributor cap with a set of dual points in it which were engine temperature actuated with one set retarded so it started on the coldest day as if it was summer and then seemlessly switched over to the other set once the engine temp warmed up, had some of the most comfortable low back bucket seats I ever sat in, cornered well, handled well and was a really dependable ride for all the years I owned it thumbs
