Did you know that De Beer's diaomds (the diamond cartel) actually invented the idea of the diamond engagement ring? They also invented the 1 month salary, and two month salary "rule" for an engagement ring. And now what! The new ads: "I'd marry you again.." The three stone re-marry ring! How many times is a man supposed to marry a woman! Insanity. Social pressure for bigger and better? Or clever advertising creating a new social norm?
