Because 40% of our domestic production comes from the Gulf of Mexico.
The storm has damaged offshore rigs, as well as offloading stations and refineries on shore.
The disruption in production will cause a drop in supply, which means prices will go up.
If people panic, and try to hoarde fuel, it just compounds the problems.
