What gets to me is the American spelling of certain words - sometimes I think it is just laziness, dropping a letter that doesn't seem necessary:
Colour vs color
Honour vs honor
Theatre vs theater
Calibre vs caliber
Fibre vs fiber
Aluminium vs aluminum
Defence vs defense
Cheque vs check
