Are we giving up on this one?

Let's review some info about it.

It is a skull of an animal.

It has no lower jaw bone to speak of, although I have found there is what could e considered a "residual" jaw bone and several other very tiny bones not attached to the skull none of which would help any of us ID it anyway unless someone was a scientist specializing in this kind of creature. So that tells you a lot abut how it doesn't eat; it does not chew or bite. So how does it eat?

It does not have a long tongue so it doesn't get food that way like an anteater or hummingbird or lizard. Not having a long tongue or lower jaw bone pretty much rules out snakes too.

It is not a mammal.

It is not a bird.

It is not a toad or frog.

It is not a shark or ray or seahorse.

This skull is 3cm in length although the size of the creature can be larger or smaller and I understand they are capable of getting much bigger in the right conditions.

Fossil, please tell us what you think or thought it is for fun. I don't think you know, at least not for sure, but it would be interesting to get your thoughts. You might know, it would not surprise me if you did but I think everyone else has given up on it and you are as close to an expert as we've got here on such things.

One more BIG clue... it is a fish.

Put on the thinking caps. smiling smiley
