Actually, we haven't had an idiot (challenged?: YES) in office since Lyndon Johnson. And even he wasn't stupid enough to run for reelection.
Maybe it works different elsewhere. But, in the USA it's all about choices. So, If you have a choice between Bad Guy and Disaster Guy you choose Bad Guy. If it's Idiot/Crook, well shit, go with Crook.
And I was going to say that not voting is foolish. But those people have already proved themselves foolish by not voting. So, maybe they shouldn't anyway.
