'berto, never had a lot of experience w/inline 6s though my Mom did have a Jeep Grand Cherokee w/a 4.0l NA straight 6 that was a wicked engine. Unfortunately it was housed in a Jeep that fell apart on many other fronts w/far too much regularity. Being the good son that had to maintain it led to numerous side of the road repairs that didn help in my summation of thing as PITA POS overall, but the engine was great.

Ford used to have a 300ci/4.9l straight 6 that was a hoss of an engine. It was built along with the V8 302/5.0l and was actually to my mind the better of the 2 engines.

One serious advantage I always appreciated in inline 6s is that by design they have one extra main bearing housing compared to a V8, making their bottom end stronger and more rigid.

I have never seen one but I suspect a twin turbo or compound turbo set up on a 300-6 would yield a shit ton of power and probably do so pretty reliably (*binladen*)
