upper line is the price adjusted for inflation. As, for example, prices in 1976
in general were about 30% of prices in 2004, we divide the nominal 1976 price of

COCKSUCKER.......Oh, an interesting side note. The America Petroleum Institute
collects statistics that allow us to break out various components of the price
of a gallon of gas. Comparing prices today with 1981, when they were at a peak:
The cost of crude oil -- the amount that goes to OPEC and the people who
actually pump it out of the ground -- is half today what it was in 1981.
Refining and distribution -- what goes to the big oil companies -- is up by a
miniscule amount, about 1%.
Federal, state, and local taxes are up 43%. (Note this is after adjusting for
inflation. Federal taxes alone have gone up 360% before adjusting for
inflation.)
So if you're worrying about rising oil prices, there is one simple cause: Taxes.
Sales and excise taxes today make up 21% of the price of a gallon of gas. (This
does not include income taxes.) Whatever your opinion of the value of what the
government does with this money, clearly this has nothing to do with
overpopulation or exhausting our natural resources.

a) gas was really about 2.80 a gallon in todays $
b) i saw on the news last night national average
price of gas as 2.40 a gallon
therefore i believe you are wrong and have been proven with factible proof, and
