HANAMI or O-HANAMI (Flower viewing) is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers,
"flower" in this case almost always meaning SAKURA (Cherry blossoms). From late March to early April,
SAKURA go into full bloom all over Japan.
In modern-day Japan, HANAMI mostly means of having an outdoor party beneath the sakura, which are pretty
in daylight and enchanting at night. Hanami at night is called YOZAKURA ("night SAKURA".

Nagaoka is second largest city of Niigata prefecture. (Population about 280thousand)
The best three points for HANAMI are "YUKYU-ZAN hill", "KAKI-GAWA river" and "FUKUSHIMA-E river".

Nagaoka is well known as hometown of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto.
On late at night of 1-Aug-1945, 126 B-29s came and bombed indiscriminate.
About 80% of city burned down and 1,461 people killed.
Now Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto been historic hero of Nagaoka. But some part of citizen envy him yet.
They believe 'USA bombed Nagaoka as revenge of Pearl harvor, cause of Yamamoto's hometown.'

well, damn, fancy that...the japs bomb us and we bomb them back....damn that sucks, don't it? makes my little ole heart just bleed for them. their citizens were innocent? so were the sailors and soldiers at pearl harbor...they had never fired a shot or bombed anyone when they were slaughtered by the japs that day.

You are wrong 213202. Not only Nagaoka. Tokyo bomb again and again. Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Fukuoka and another lot of city bomb too.
Atomic bomb used Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If Japan was not surrender at 8-15-1945 Atomic will used Kokura and NIIGATA.
TommyT talks about only sakura and history, not said like 'USA is evil! Yamamoto is good!'.

Yesterday in JST, The 61th memorial day of The Tokyo great air raid in March 10, 1945's night.
About over 100 thousand people killed in undiscrimination.

There were 4 great air raids in Tokyo. And I say again 233179 said. Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Fukuoka and another lot of citis like Nagaoka, Mito, Hachioji, Toyama, Aomori, Hakodate, Hitachi and more and more.
Atomic Bombs killed About 300 thousand people in Hiroshima and Nadasaki and Bikini!
