I'm not
that old and I can remember when self service gas was a new
thing. How 'bout the rest of you?

You could buy a pack of your favorite cigs for a quarter. Penny candy was
really only a penny. A Big Hunk was only a nickel. A McGagger's burger was 15
cents. I don't even think Taco Hell was around way back then. 50 cents to go see
a movie. Shall I continue?
Those were the days, eh Quasi?

When I was 4-5 years old, my dad would give me a gas can and a quarter every
Saturday, and I would walk to the gas station up the alley and get gas for the
lawn mower. Can you imagine a 4-year-old buying gasoline in today's America?
You'd probably get charged with child endangerment.

My boss, who is about a dozen years older than me, was mostly raised by his
grandparents. He's told me of Saturday evenings when his grandmother would send
him down to the store with his little wagon to fill it up with ice and beer in
preparation for watching wrestling ov TV.

Even when I was a kid I knew what was up. When Self Serve Gas came out, I knew
that it wasn't convenience, it was just the companies taking away for more
profit, just like they continue today..... put a nice big IMPROVED! on the
front, decrease the size, water down the actual product and fuck the world to
make a buck.... with a smile!
