Although the gas prices in both place may be the same... just more going to the oil companies than the government.

We here in America know that feeling, since about 1/4 of the price of gas is taxes and the rest is obscene profit.

This companies spend billions if not trillions by now "exploring" for gas in Australia.
Norway is a very poor example as it's only a couple of thousand K's of coastline. [www.nbim.no]
The Australian Gov is not stupid it's lazy, it's a big and mostly empty country, so they aren't paying squat to search for the stuff.
And in return those mining companies get a good to great deal.
