It's nothing like months of that light. Helsinki is nowhere near the arctic circle; I lived further north than Helsinki and even in the middle of winter they get 6 hours of full daylight; and 12 hours of dawn to dusk (the transitions are quite slow). Helsinki is around 60 degrees north of the equator; you need 75-90 degrees for it to be what's described here.

What I loved was in the middle of Summer where you get about 2 hours of light similar to this picture then the sun rises again.

Hmm... my impression was wrong. All good then. What did you think of the food?

I heard there are jokes about Finnish food and, during the virus, when governments provided free hand sanitiser to their inner city homeless alcoholics, they drank the sanitiser and complained about being sick - except in Helsinki!

It'll get closer in the dead of winter, right at the very top of Finland; but even then it's not far enough for perpetual darkness/twilight (ie for months). You really need to be looking at the top of Norway (which is higher than Finland), top of Russia or right into Greenland.

I lived in Sweden, my reference was more to the 'map height' being above Helsinki; but I did spend some time in Finland. My girlfriend at the time was half Swedish & Finnish so spent time in both, but primarily Sweden.

The food was fine. I really don't eat any form of seafood/fish so sadly never tried pickled herring or similar, but there was always plenty of options. They're not third world countries, there's plenty of places to eat even in small towns. One of my favourite restaurants in the town did great Greek food.

I did have some delicious horse sausage, and moose burger was tasty even if a bit gamey. Beef was incredibly expensive though.

That's an eye opener! Thank you.
