The framing of this photo is pathetic, the background is meh, the lightning (no
pun intended) is completely wrong, the shutter speed (yeah yeah digital camera
on a phone) is set incorrectly to see the flame/light in sharp contrast and the
colour saturation is way too dark.
The woodworking, although simple turning, is absolutely top notch. Moar.

Your critique of my picture is spot on, every word of it...
I appreciate the compliment on my turning, thanks..
these lanterns are a fun little project and good practice with the skew chisel

Because I yam what I yam...
...I can't stop thinking about someone completing this piece,
then carelessly screwing in the eye-bolt and splitting the whole thing to
smithereens.

Woberto that's not how wood cells work. Imagine a mass of diamond shaped cells
glued together with no air between them. The harder the wood the smaller the
cells and so the more glue. The stuff actually flexes, but its strength is
greater than its flex. It's a fantastic material. keep the wood chips cool and
moist to produce a rich black soil. That's not pine wood, so as long as it's
kept dry it should last a long time.
Obviously I'm not a tree hugger.

If you put too large of a screw into end grain you absolutely will split the
wood.

Yes but it won't shatter to pieces.

Then you can just screw it back together, duh.
