Dunno about US land but absolutely nobody here is giving a cash refund, almost
always straight onto card or the purchase method used.
Fuck I can't type today

Call me Captain Obvious pulse but this meme is a joke aimed at gen Z or
whatever the young folk are called this decade.
Here is one for you to ponder...
Three factory workers (from the 80's) want to buy a radio to listen at work.
They each have a $10 note (cash) to spend.
They all go down to the store and find a radio for $25 that fits the bill.
They each hand over their $10 to the cashier making $30 in total and so receive
$5 in change.
The cashier spots the connundrum an proposes the following.
You will each receive $1 change to keep it even.
The store will keep $2 on rhe till as credit for your next purchase.
3x$1 + $2 = $5 right?
So they get back to the factory and soon discover that the radio is not nearly
loud enough.
They agree to return the radio for a refund and then save up for a boombox!
So they get the same cashier and explain they want to return the radio.
No problem, they hand over the radio and the cashier gives them $9 each (they
each paid $10 and got $1 change remember).
The cashier also gives back the $2 on the till that was credit.
3x $9 = $27 + $2 = $29 so WTF happened to the missing $1 ???

Typically here in the USA, as per my experiences anyway, returned item charges
are usually refunded to the original payment method if item was paid for with a
card. However it is not completely unheard of for certain stores to refund cash
instead of crediting back the card. I don't know why but it does happen.
(Also, some store will only issue a store credit)
The above situation is exactly what happened to a friend of mine..
He paid $100 towards the gift, the gift was returned, he got his $100 back, and
no gift for mom.
She paid $200 on her card, got $100 cash, and no gift for mom.
This seems unfair to her...
However, If he gives her $100 to pay for half of the credit card charge, then he
is out $100 and still no gift for mom. This would be unfair to him.
I think the answer lies in contacting the credit card company and disputing the
charge.
Card was charged $200 for an item that was returned so the store shouldn't have
charged the credit card company anything.
