So absolutely fucked the inbound firewall last night.
Managed to recover it after a couple of hours to the point where some services
were running. Lots of stuff disconnected. Still.
VLANs and transit between different back end systems are broken but it's
hobbling along and nobody can tell. But a lot of behind the scenes stuff is
broken right now.
Bleh. Fucking computers. Hate 'em.

I was on the site when it went "down for maintenance," morning here.
I suspect you have a love/hate relationship with computers. Why else would you
keep the site alive? Cheers.

I though that image was pulse's decision-making flow-chart or something like
that.

It pretty much is!
YOLO motherfuckers.
Yeah it's kinda love-hate. TBH the site became an educational tool for me. I
took most of what DK wrote, almost none of his original code still exists,
everything has been re-written and has actual.. security.. behind a lot of it
now

Lots of new features, performance
improvements.. the site has never been so fast.
And from an infrastructure side, I also used it for learning. I've made it even
more convoluted than DK originally wanted things. But it's been interesting.
I did a routine upgrade on the internet facing firewall the other night;
shouldn't even have been an outage to the site. "Oh, I'll quickly do this,
5 minutes before I go to bed". 2 hours later I had basic internet access
back. Kaboom!
All rules lost, all flows between network segments gone and a corrupt config
backup that wouldn't read.
There's several levels; there's a presentation layer/internet facing DMZ side,
then there's non routable networks behind that (eg the DB server doesn't need to
be internet reachable), PHP accelerators etc, all hosted in different, non
routable VLANs. None of them could talk to each other, all routes between zones
lost; and then things still work off an extended vxlan to some remaining infra
in Miami, mostly for backups these days via a wireguard link. All dead.
I have no idea what went wrong, but the "5 mintutes, in and out, quick
upgrade" took 2 days to fully repair.
