I took my own advice and researched the gun deaths per capita. I excluded suicides as I figured if a gun wasn't available another method would be used. Info was from Wikipedia, which in turn referenced Krug and UNODC. There was no information available on Angola, Turkey, Pakistan, Russia or China. Britain's number was so low it does not regiter on the graph (0.15 per 100,000).

Two things stand out to me. Firstly, if you are in a developing country either pray that they have a decent police force or hire good security. Secondly, while it's not a one to one relationship - if you are in a "1st world" country, the more guns there are the more likely you are going to die from one.

I am a big beleiver in the saying "Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics" and know that this graph proves nothing. The next step is to compare murder by firearm to total murders, cos it could be argued that if a firearm wasn't available, would the murder have occured some other way? That said though, logic dictates that, given that guns are a relatively easy way to kill somebody, if more guns are available more deaths will occur!

In Britain, France, and Canada, there's no one worth shooting.

GAK67, you have no place at 613. Instead of looking at statistics you should just come out with some vague and unreasonable comment based entirely on your own prejudices winking
smiley It's the 613 way, don't you know?

It's also nice to see that germany, where "you can buy anything except automatics and laser sights" is up there on the list. Other data that should be cross referenced is gun crime / availability and poverty / wealth of the population. Include some poorer countries like Jamaica in the graph and I am guessing that the US will slip down that list, but remain significant. Also factor in whether or not Cheney had a day off from work.

If you research the old west I think you might find there was not that much killing with guns because everyone wore guns and you couldn't be sure who was faster than you.

FrostedApe, I don't know whether to take offense or not. I am from Canada. No one worth shooting? It sounds like your being a dick, but then again, don't you shoot "bad" people? So Brits, the French and Canucks are good people, we don't need to be shot. Americans on the other hand... right?
